Protected Fields

Protected fields let you hide specific content blocks within a tag while keeping the rest visible. Perfect for revealing sensitive information only to authorized viewers.

How Protected Fields Work

Unlike tag-level password protection:

  • Main tag content is visible to everyone
  • Protected blocks show a "locked" indicator
  • Each protected block can have its own password
  • Viewers enter password to reveal that block only

Creating Protected Fields

Protect a Block

  1. Create or select a content block
  2. Click the menu on the block
  3. Select Protect with Password
  4. Enter a password
  5. Click Apply

The block now shows a lock icon and requires password to view.

Protected Block Types

You can protect:

  • Text blocks
  • Image blocks
  • File attachments
  • Callout blocks
  • Any content block

Viewer Experience

What Viewers See

Protected blocks display:

  • Lock icon
  • "Protected Content" label
  • "Enter Password" button

Unlocking Content

  1. Click Enter Password
  2. Type the password
  3. Click Unlock
  4. Content is revealed

Session Persistence

Once unlocked:

  • Stays unlocked during browser session
  • Re-lock on page refresh
  • Each device needs separate unlock

Multiple Protected Fields

Different Passwords

Each block can have a different password:

  • Block 1: "password123"
  • Block 2: "secret456"
  • Block 3: "access789"

Useful for tiered access or different audiences.

Same Password

Use the same password for multiple blocks:

  • All unlock with one password entry
  • Useful for grouped sensitive content

Best Practices

When to Use Protected Fields

Use for:

  • Internal reference numbers
  • Credentials and access codes
  • Pricing or financial data
  • Personal information

Password Management

  • Use unique passwords per field when appropriate
  • Document passwords securely
  • Share passwords through secure channels
  • Change passwords when access should be revoked

Content Organization

  • Group related protected content
  • Place protected fields where they make sense

Security Considerations

What's Protected

Protected fields:

  • Hide content from casual viewers
  • Require password for access
  • Log access attempts (if logging enabled)

What's Not Protected

  • Content is not encrypted at rest
  • Someone with password can copy/share content
  • Browser history may cache viewed content

For maximum security, consider encryption.
