Text Blocks

Text blocks are the foundation of most tags. They support rich formatting, making your content clear and professional.

Creating Text Blocks

Automatic Creation

Simply start typing anywhere in the editor. A text block is created automatically.

Using the Block Picker

  1. Click + in the margin
  2. Select Text
  3. Start typing

Using Slash Commands

Type /text and press Enter.

Basic Formatting

Select text to reveal the formatting toolbar:

Bold

  • Keyboard: Ctrl/Cmd + B
  • Toolbar: Click B button
  • Markdown: Wrap in **asterisks**

Italic

  • Keyboard: Ctrl/Cmd + I
  • Toolbar: Click I button
  • Markdown: Wrap in *asterisks*

Underline

  • Keyboard: Ctrl/Cmd + U
  • Toolbar: Click U button

Strikethrough

  • Toolbar: Click S̶ button
  • Markdown: Wrap in ~~tildes~~

Code (Inline)

  • Toolbar: Click </> button
  • Markdown: Wrap in `backticks`

Headings

Create hierarchy with heading levels:

Heading 1 (H1)

  • Type # at the start of a line
  • Or select text and choose H1 from dropdown

Heading 2 (H2)

  • Type ## at the start of a line

Heading 3 (H3)

  • Type ### at the start of a line
Heading Usage

Use H1 for main sections, H2 for subsections, H3 for details. Consistent hierarchy improves readability.

Lists

Bullet Lists

Create unordered lists:

- First item
- Second item
- Third item

Or type - or * at the start of a line.

Numbered Lists

Create ordered lists:

1. First step
2. Second step
3. Third step

Or type 1. at the start of a line.

Checklists

Create interactive checklists:

[ ] Unchecked item
[x] Checked item

Or type [] at the start of a line.

Viewers can check/uncheck items (if they have edit permission).

Nested Lists

Indent items to create sub-lists:

  1. Press Tab to indent
  2. Press Shift+Tab to outdent

Text Styling

Text Color

  1. Select text
  2. Click the color icon (A with underline)
  3. Choose from palette or enter hex code

Background Highlight

  1. Select text
  2. Click the highlight icon
  3. Choose a highlight color

Alignment

  • Left (default)
  • Center
  • Right

Click alignment buttons in the toolbar or use keyboard shortcuts.

  1. Select text to link
  2. Click the link icon (🔗)
  3. Enter the URL
  4. Click Apply
  1. Click on the linked text
  2. Click the link icon
  3. Modify the URL or click Remove
  • Web URLs: https://example.com
  • Email: mailto:email@example.com
  • Phone: tel:+1234567890
  • Other Tags: Paste a tagd-ai URL

Special Characters

Line Breaks

  • Press Enter for a new paragraph
  • Press Shift+Enter for a line break (same paragraph)

Horizontal Rules

Type --- and press Enter for a divider line.

Emojis

  • Type :emoji_name: (e.g., :smile:)
  • Or use your system emoji picker (Ctrl/Cmd + .)

tagd-ai supports common Markdown syntax:

Text Block Settings

Click on a text block for options:

  • Duplicate - Copy the block
  • Delete - Remove the block
  • Turn into Callout - Convert to callout block

Copy and Paste

From Other Applications

  • Paste from Word, Google Docs, etc.
  • Basic formatting is preserved
  • Complex formatting may be simplified

From Web Pages

  • Paste content from websites
  • Links are preserved
  • Images may need to be re-added

Plain Text

  • Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + V for plain text paste
  • Removes all formatting

Best Practices

Readability

  • Keep paragraphs short (3-4 sentences)
  • Use headings to break up content
  • Use lists for multiple items
  • Leave whitespace between sections

Formatting

  • Don't overuse bold/italic
  • Limit color usage
  • Be consistent with heading levels
  • Use callouts instead of all-caps for emphasis

Accessibility

  • Don't rely solely on color for meaning
  • Use proper heading hierarchy
  • Provide descriptive link text
  • Keep line length reasonable (60-80 characters)

Troubleshooting

Formatting Not Applying

  1. Ensure text is selected
  2. Click the format button again
  3. Try the keyboard shortcut
  4. Refresh the page if persistent

Pasted Content Looks Wrong

  1. Try Ctrl/Cmd + Shift + V for plain text
  2. Paste into a plain text editor first
  3. Reformat manually if needed

Text Not Saving

  1. Check internet connection
  2. Look for error messages
  3. Wait for auto-save indicator
  4. Refresh and check if content persisted
