Deleting Your Account

If you need to close your tagd-ai account, this guide explains the process and what to expect.

Before You Delete​

Consider Alternatives​

Before permanently deleting:

  • Downgrade - Switch to free plan instead
  • Pause - Leave account inactive (no deletion)
  • Export - Download your data first
  • Transfer - Move tags to another account

What Gets Deleted​

When you delete your account:

What Happens to QR Codes​

After deletion:

  • All QR codes stop working
  • Scans show "Tag not found"
  • Cannot be recovered
  • Short IDs may be reassigned eventually

Export Your Data First​

Download Everything​

Before deleting:

  1. Go to Account → Privacy
  2. Click Download My Data
  3. Select all data types
  4. Generate export
  5. Download the ZIP file
  6. Verify contents

Export Includes​

  • Profile information
  • All tags and content
  • Uploaded files
  • Analytics history
  • Activity logs

QR Codes​

Export your QR codes separately:

  1. Go to Dashboard
  2. Select all tags
  3. Bulk Actions → Download QR Codes
  4. Save for reference (codes won't work after deletion)

Deletion Process​

Step 1: Access Account Settings​

  1. Sign in to your account
  2. Go to Account → Settings
  3. Scroll to bottom
  4. Click Delete Account

Step 2: Confirm Your Identity​

  1. Enter your password
  2. If 2FA enabled, enter code
  3. Click Continue

Step 3: Review Consequences​

Read the summary of what will be deleted:

  • Number of tags
  • Storage used
  • Active subscription status

Step 4: Final Confirmation​

  1. Type "DELETE" to confirm
  2. Provide optional feedback
  3. Click Permanently Delete Account

Step 5: Confirmation​

  • You're signed out immediately
  • Confirmation email sent
  • 30-day grace period begins

Grace Period​

30-Day Recovery Window​

After initiating deletion:

  • Account marked for deletion
  • Data hidden but not yet deleted
  • Can recover by signing in
  • After 30 days, permanently deleted

Cancel Deletion​

To stop the deletion:

  1. Sign in with your credentials
  2. Confirm "Keep my account"
  3. Account restored immediately
  4. All data intact

After 30 Days​

  • Account is permanently deleted
  • Cannot be recovered
  • Email can be used for new account
  • All data purged from systems

Subscription Handling​

Active Subscription​

If you have a paid subscription:

  1. Subscription is canceled immediately
  2. No refund for remaining period
  3. Pro features disabled
  4. Continue with free features during grace period

Pending Charges​

  • Outstanding charges still billed
  • Refunds per our terms of service
  • Contact support for billing issues

Special Cases​

Organization Account​

If you're an organization owner:

  1. Transfer ownership first, or
  2. Delete organization (deletes all member access)
  3. Then delete personal account

Emergency Contacts​

If you're someone's emergency contact:

  • You're removed from their list
  • They're notified
  • No access to their data

Shared Tags​

Tags shared with you:

  • You lose access
  • Original owner keeps their tags
  • They're notified you left

Data Retention​

Immediately Deleted​

  • Profile information
  • Authentication data
  • API keys and sessions

Retained 30 Days​

  • Tags and content
  • Files and media
  • Analytics data
  • Activity logs

Some data may be retained longer if:

  • Required by law
  • Active legal matter
  • Fraud investigation
  • Billing dispute

Troubleshooting​

Can't Access Account to Delete​

If you can't sign in:

  1. Try password reset
  2. Use backup codes for 2FA
  3. Contact support with account email
  4. Provide identity verification

Deletion Not Processing​

If account still accessible after deletion:

  1. Check for confirmation email
  2. Ensure deletion was completed
  3. Wait 24 hours for processing
  4. Contact support if persistent

Changed My Mind​

Within 30 days:

  1. Simply sign in
  2. Confirm account recovery
  3. Everything restored

After 30 days:

  • Cannot be recovered
  • Create new account if needed

  • Subject: "Account Deletion Request"
  • Include: Account email, reason for deletion

Support can:

  • Verify deletion was processed
  • Handle billing issues
  • Answer data retention questions

Alternatives to Deletion​

Make Account Inactive​

Instead of deleting:

  1. Remove all tags
  2. Cancel subscription
  3. Leave account dormant
  4. Return anytime

Export and Start Fresh​

  1. Export all data
  2. Create new account
  3. Import content to new account
  4. Delete old account
