Permission Scenarios

Public Information (Product Labels, Instructions)

Read: Public
Write: Owner

Anyone can scan and view. Only you can make changes.

Internal Team Documentation

Read: Domain
Write: Domain

Personal/Private Content

Read: Owner
Write: Owner

Completely private - only accessible when signed in as you.

Collaborative Public Wiki

Read: Public
Write: Public

Anyone can view and contribute. Good for community projects.

Public Write Access

Public write permissions allow anyone to modify your content. Use sparingly and monitor for abuse.

Domain-Based Permissions

Domain permissions use the email domain from your tagd-ai account.

How It Works

  • Your account email: you@company.com
  • Domain: company.com
  • Anyone with an @company.com email can access domain-restricted tags

Multiple Domains

Currently, domain permissions only work with your primary email domain. For multi-domain access, use:

  • Individual sharing invitations
  • Public access with password protection

Additional Security

Permissions can be combined with other security features:

Protected Fields

Keep some content hidden even in public tags:

  • Mark specific blocks as protected
  • Require password to reveal that content
  • Rest of the tag remains visible
  • Supports emergency access with approval workflow

Learn more in Protected Fields.

Access Logging

Track who views your tags:

  1. Go to tag SettingsSecurity
  2. Enable Access Logging
  3. View logs in the tag's analytics

Checking Permissions

From the Dashboard

Tags display permission icons:

  • 🌐 Public read
  • 🏢 Domain read
  • 🔒 Private (owner only)

From the Tag

Click Settings to see current permissions.

For Viewers

Viewers see a permission indicator in the footer showing the access level.

Transferring Ownership

Transfer a tag to another user:

  1. Open the tag
  2. Click Transfer Ownership
  3. Enter the new owner's email
  4. They receive an email to accept
  5. Once accepted, you lose owner access
Irreversible

Transferring ownership cannot be undone. The new owner has full control.

Troubleshooting

"Access Denied" for Domain Users

  • Verify their email domain matches exactly
  • Ensure they're signed in to tagd-ai
  • Check the tag hasn't been set to owner-only

Can't Change Permissions

  • Only the owner can modify permissions
  • Check if you're signed in to the correct account

Public Tag Showing Login Screen

  • The tag might have domain or owner read permissions
  • Password protection may be enabled
  • Check the tag settings

Best Practices

  1. Start Restrictive - Begin with owner-only, loosen as needed
  2. Use Domain for Teams - Easier than individual sharing
  3. Add Passwords for Sensitive Public Tags - Extra protection layer
  4. Enable Logging - Know who's accessing important tags
  5. Review Regularly - Audit permissions on important content
